From bold accent walls to full commercial wall coverings, American Town Painting installs, removes, and repairs wallpaper across the Wasatch Front.
Wallpaper is back, and it looks nothing like the stubborn, dated paper you grew up peeling off. Today’s wallpapers offer textures, patterns, and depth that paint simply can’t match. Modern materials are durable, washable, and far easier to remove when you’re ready for a change.
American Town Painting brings a painter’s obsession from surface prep to wallpaper. We smooth and prime walls before a single strip goes up, measure and match patterns precisely, and finish every edge clean. Homeowners and businesses across Northern Utah trust us for the high-quality work we provide.
This is our core service. We hang traditional pasted wallpaper, pre-pasted papers, and peel-and-stick products on varying wall surfaces.
Every installation includes:
• Pattern matching at the seams
• Plumb-line alignment on the first strip
• Bubble-free smoothing
• Crisp trimming at ceilings, baseboards, outlets, and corners.
Taking down old wallpaper is often harder than putting up new paper, especially the multi-layer, glued-down installations common in older Salt Lake Valley homes.
We strip old paper, remove adhesive residue, and repair any wall damage uncovered underneath, leaving you with a surface that’s ready for new wallpaper or fresh paint.
Problems like lifted seams, peeling corners, bubbles, and small tears don’t always mean starting over. Where the paper is still in good condition, we repair it so they disappear into the pattern.
Wallpaper telegraphs every flaw beneath it. If your walls are textured (as most Utah homes are), we skim coat them smooth and prime with the right wallcovering primer so the paper adheres properly and releases cleanly years down the road.
This step is where most DIY and budget installations go wrong, and it’s where we refuse to cut corners.
Offices, restaurants, hotels, medical suites, and retail spaces use commercial-grade vinyl wallcoverings for durability and brand impact.
We install Type I and Type II wallcoverings on schedules that accommodate your business hours, coordinating with your designer or property manager from spec through walkthrough.
We look at your walls, talk through the paper you have in mind (or help you choose), and give you a clear written quote.
We repair damage, skim-coat texture where needed, sand smooth, and apply a dedicated wall-covering primer. This is the foundation of a seamless result.
We measure the room, calculate pattern repeats, and cut strips with matching in mind — measuring at least twice before anything touches the wall.
The first strip goes up on a plumb line. Each subsequent strip is pattern-matched, smoothed edge-to-edge, and trimmed cleanly at every boundary.
We inspect every seam and corner with you, and we don’t call it done until you do.

These guys were awesome. Very professional and the final product looks great! They helped us through a color snafu as well when the color we picked turned out to be not what we expected.Posted on Google![]()

I’ve used American Town Painting twice now. They took great pride in painting the exterior of my 1906 bungalow. It required lots of scraping, prepping, and caulking that resulted in a beautiful finish. It turned out nicer than I imagined. They also tidied up a ceiling for me that another painter used the wrong products on.Posted on Google![]()

I went with American Town Painting because of their stellar Google reviews and they did not disappoint. Gabriel understood our vision clearly, articulated it to his team, and stopped by frequently to monitor the quality of their execution. Every member of his team was diligent, hardworking and pleasant to interact with; we felt completely comfortable having them in our home. They removed and replaced baseboards, and painted two levels of our home three different colors— excellent work. They also discovered old water damage hidden beneath a section of crown molding and smoothly repaired it in no time. The door trim we chose was too wide for three of our doorframes with adjacent shutters, outlets and corners. Edgar customized the trim to accommodate each door while maintaining our chosen trim design. It’s seamless. I can’t recommend their work enough. Very tidy, fast-moving and skilled, would love to work with them again.Posted on Google![]()

For knowing nothing about home ownership and thinking I could take on a massive painting project myself, Gabriel and his crew SAVED me! I reached out for a quote and was able to schedule a preliminary walkthrough with Gabriel to discuss a plan and a quote. Gabriel took into account my naivete and income to give me a fair price and also help take the stress of DIY projects off of my plate. We had our entire interior painted and patched, we also had our kitchen cabinets refinished by his partner company White Fox Cabinets. Gabriel included that in our cost so it was one easy payment. Odi at White Fox did an incredible job with the previous owners DIY disaster job to turn the cabinets into our dream cabinets! Our painters were Igor and Victor. 2 awesome guys who did a wonderful job, worked around our crazy frazzled brains, and were considerate and respectful of our space. They were always asking if we liked everything, if there was anything they could fix or that I noticed, and they answered all of our questions with ease. We are so grateful for the entire crew that helped us out. Our house now feels like a home and it looks AMAZING!Posted on Google![]()

We chose American Town Painting to paint the exterior of our house (brick, vinyl and wood). The team did an amazing job every step of the way. The painting crew was fantastic. They handled all of the prep work, including scraping wood and filling any holes. They easily accommodated our additional requests and add-on’s (window trim, soffits/fascia, gutters and garage door). The end result is a completely transformed home, which we’re very happy with. We’d recommend this company for any painting needs.
Look for a contractor with several years of hands-on wallpaper experience. Check reviews for mentions of seams and prep work, ask to see photos of past installations, and confirm they’re licensed and insured.
Most single rooms take one to two days, depending on size, pattern complexity, and the amount of wall prep needed. Skim coating textured walls adds drying time before hanging can begin.
Not well. Texture shows through the paper, weakening adhesion. We skim-coat textured walls smooth first. It’s extra work up front, but it’s the difference between a flawless finish and a wall full of shadows and lifted edges.
We don’t recommend it. Old paper can release under the weight and moisture of the new adhesive, taking your new wallpaper with it. Removing the old paper first gives the new installation a flat, stable surface.
Vinyl wallcoverings are the go-to for moisture-prone rooms, as they’re durable, moisture-resistant, and wipe clean without damage. For full baths with showers, good ventilation matters as much as the paper choice.
Modern wallpapers are much easier to remove than the papers of decades past. Most quality products are strippable or peelable, provided they were installed correctly on a properly primed wall, which is another reason professional installation pays off.
Clear the walls of hangings and nails, move furniture a few feet away from the walls, and make sure the room is accessible. We handle everything else, including protecting floors and fixtures.
If the paper is in overall good shape, we can often re-glue lifted seams, patch tears, and smooth bubbles so repairs blend into the pattern. If damage is widespread or the paper has discolored, we’ll give you an honest recommendation on whether to repair or replace.
A reliable starting point is to echo a pattern or color already in the room to make the space feel cohesive. Light colors and subtle patterns open up small rooms; large rooms can carry bold, large-repeat designs. In dim spaces, smooth papers with light or iridescent tones bounce light around; textured papers like grasscloth add warmth but can make a room feel cozier and smaller.
It depends on the wall condition, the paper’s pattern complexity, and the room size. Wallpaper is more detailed work than painting, and labor reflects that. We provide free, itemized written estimates so you know exactly what you’re paying for before we start.
